Living Legacies, the official fundraiser and launch event for more.BOSTON, picks up where MLK Day traditionally leaves off.
King’s Dream set the stage for many living legacies – and still challenges us today to assess how far we’ve come. In addition to the announcement of the launch of more.BOSTON, and the first public screening of the Project’s teaser video, the highlight of the Convening will be an inter-generational panel of men who have overcome tremendous odds to leave their own living legacies in Boston and beyond:
- Marvin Gilmore – Decorated World War II hero who earned several medals including the Legion of Honor, the highest award bestowed in France; Musician, Activist & Entrepreneur, founded Unity Bank and Trust, the first black-owned commercial bank in New England
- Chef Jeff Henderson – New York Times Best-selling author, and star of Food Network’s The Chef Jeff Project; Henderson discovered his passion for cooking while incarcerated, and once released – without any formal instruction – went on to become the first Black executive chef at the Bellagio Resort and Casino
- Frederick Hutson – CEO and Founder of Pidgeonly; disturbed by the lack of communication options in prison, once released from incarceration, Hutson founded one of the largest low-cost inmate service providers in the country, which has raised over $5MM in venture capital funding
- Walter B. Prince – selected as a Super Lawyer for the past 13 years, and named one of the Best Lawyers in America for the past 10, Prince is the only Black name partner of a midsize law firm on the entire East Coast.
